Accessibility basics for Year 9
Alt text
- Every meaningful image needs
alt text describing what it shows.
- If an image is decorative only, use
alt="" so screen readers skip it.
Clear heading structure
- One
<h1> per page, followed by <h2> and <h3> in order.
- Avoid skipping levels (do not jump from
<h1> to <h4>).
Colour contrast
- Ensure text stands out from the background (dark text on a light background or vice versa).
- Avoid pairing light grey text on light colours.
- Test by printing in black and white; if it is still readable, contrast is likely acceptable.
